Le Théâtre Prospero présente sa nouvelle production Surveillée et punie dans le cadre du Festival TransAmériques 2024

“Sublimer la haine, voilà l’ambition qui lie l’autrice-compositrice-interprète Safia Nolin et le metteur en scène Philippe Cyr. Ensemble, il et elle s’emparent des milliers de véritables insultes proférées à l’égard de la chanteuse comme matière première d’une création hors norme et entièrement musicale. Quel sens donnons-nous à la liberté d’expression lorsqu’elle se matérialise en violence?

Nolin se place courageusement au centre du dispositif, face à un grand chœur qui déverse son fiel. Dans une puissante célébration du geste artistique et un vibrant appel au collectif, sororité et solidarité se déploient. Face à la punition infligée par la parole publique, toutes les permissions sont accordées par la musique, jusqu’à renverser les dynamiques antagonistes. Armée de sa guitare, Safia Nolin se réapproprie enfin l’espace dont on la chasse. “

VB8: Once upon 8 times

VB8 Octet announces it’s first concert of our new Family Series "once upon 8 times;” A light-hearted programme of choral pieces for 4-8 singers with family audiences in mind.

A variety of fun, popular and exciting choral harmonisations from across the ages will be presented. The concert will also focus on the French and Quebec song tradition, including songs by Leonard Cohen, Charles Trenet, and Gilles Vigneault, plus the world première performance of Casi Alba by French-Quebec composer Mael Oudin.

“ Presented by I Musici in collaboration with the I Musici chamber orchestra under the direction of Jean-François Rivest, this concert will take you on a deeply moving global journey through centuries of musical traditions. The title work Te Deum, by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt is a significant and surprising masterpiece. Also on the programme, Bach's cantata #146 (excerpt) and a new work for digital music and strings (I Musici only) by French-Canadian composer Robert Normandeau. “

Light in the Darkness Lumière dans l'obscurité

A candlelight vigil is offered by the renowned St. Andrew & St. Paul Church Choir in support of the Douglas Foundation for Mental Health Research and Care. Featuring Francis Poulenc's "Quatre motets pour un temps de pénitence", "Constellation" by Canadian composer Marie-Claire Saindon and "Rejoice in the Lamb" by Benjamin Britten, among others. The program's features the world premiere of the work "Planctus cygni", written for the occasion by Cui Wei and Kirsty Campbell, two choristers of the A&P Choir.
